Vitae

Mike Pollard

I became a Christian and was discipled in local churches, but had to go to an Urbana event to hear about world missions. I’m passionate about the gospel, the local church, and its task of making disciples of all nations. I’m married to Kathy, an RN, and have two grown daughters adopted from China, Anna and Ellie. I seek to be a creative and practical communicator, in networking, speaking and writing. I’m ordained in the PCA’s Nashville Presbytery.

Work Experience

Church Partnerships Facilitator, Pioneers (October 2010-present)

Pioneers is one of the largest sending agencies in the US. We work exclusively in church planting among unreached peoples. Its Church Partnerships team is considered the gold standard in agency/church relations. I’m on a virtual team of about a dozen, and I lead our outreach to churches in an eight state region. In this role I work primarily with churches that are sending people through Pioneers, coaching and consulting them in sending their missionaries well. In that process, I’m also helping churches develop missions vision and strategy, identify and prepare missionaries, and mobilize the congregation for missions. I’ve taught Perspectives courses since 2003.

Hub Consultant to Mission to the World (March 2021-December 2022)

The Midwest Hub of MTW contracted me as a part-time consultant to help the Hub more effectively relate to local churches in a more church-centered approach.

Pastor, Nashville Korean Presbyterian Church’s English Ministry (PT, September 2016-October 2017)

Served as weekly pastor to a small group of English-only speakers within a Korean church. I planned weekly worship services and taught Sunday School. The group grew from 4 to 12.

Church Relations Director, Arab World Ministries (June 1999-September 2010)

I directed this mid-sized agency’s national outreach to local churches. I led in developing a more church-serving approach. I coached and consulted churches’ missions ministries. I secured a grant for $450,000 and led an initiative to find and equip church-based teams, ultimately helping three churches place teams in North Africa and Europe. I frequently travelled to the Arab world and took churches to see how they might get involved in the region. AWM merged with Pioneers in October 2010.

Communications Director, Arab World Ministries (PT, September 2007-September 2010)

The communications team of three quit and I was asked to lead the department on a part time basis. I oversaw the rebranding of publications, reducing costs while increasing readership and donations. I produced the US portion of the global website, the quarterly newsletter, regular emails and the annual report. I worked with a graphic artist and produced a prayer guide for the Berbers of Morocco.

Associate Pastor of Evangelism, Missions and Discipleship, Community Evangelical Free Church, Elverson, PA (November 1994-May 1999)

I led the church’s adult discipleship, missions, evangelism, assimilation and youth ministries in a church of 450. I recruited and trained leaders for all of these ministries, including a bi-weekly leader lab for small group leaders.

Freelance writer and editor (September 1993-November 1994)

While applying for jobs at churches, I started and edited Christ Community Church’s (Franklin, TN) newsletter, wrote trade catalog copy for Thomas Nelson, proofread for Athlon sports magazines, and wrote promo copy for rising local singers.

Communications Director, Advancing Churches in Missions Commitment (FT June 1986-June 1990; PT 1990-1992, 2000-2007)

Directed the publications department for a national organization that mobilized local churches for missions. I rebranded the newsletter to a helpful resources and stories oriented newsletter which dramatically increased readership. I wrote and edited quarterly brochures, national conference publicity pieces, the annual report, and the manual Cultivating a Missions-Active Church. As the resource person for churches that wrote in with questions, I was expected to read and understand global missions trends, and the current best practices of missions agencies and churches.
